چکیده
Shape memory materials (SMMs), including alloys and polymers, can be programmed into a temporary configuration then recover the original shape in which they were processed response to triggering external stimulus ( e.g. change temperature or pH, contact with water). For this behavior, SMMs are currently raising lot of attention pharmaceutical field where could bring about important innovations current treatments. 4D printing involves processing by 3D printing, thus adding evolution over time already numerous customization possibilities new manufacturing technology. SMM-based drug delivery systems (DDSs) proposed scientific literature here reviewed classified according target pursued through recovery process. Administration route, therapeutic goal, shape, stimulus, main innovation features possible room for improvement DDSs especially highlighted.

Multimaterial 4D Printing with Tailorable Shape Memory Polymers
We present a new 4D printing approach that can create high resolution (up to a few microns), multimaterial shape memory polymer (SMP) architectures. The approach is based on high resolution projection microstereolithography (PμSL) and uses a family of photo-curable methacrylate based copolymer networks. We designed the constituents and compositions to exhibit desired thermomechanical behavior (...
متن کاملDirect 4D printing via active composite materials
We describe an approach to print composite polymers in high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) architectures that can be rapidly transformed to a new permanent configuration directly by heating. The permanent shape of a component results from the programmed time evolution of the printed shape upon heating via the design of the architecture and process parameters of a composite consisting of a gl...

Shape-morphing systems can be found in many areas, including smart textiles, autonomous robotics, biomedical devices, drug delivery and tissue engineering. The natural analogues of such systems are exemplified by nastic plant motions, where a variety of organs such as tendrils, bracts, leaves and flowers respond to environmental stimuli (such as humidity, light or touch) by varying internal tur...

متن کاملMulti-shape active composites by 3D printing of digital shape memory polymers
Recent research using 3D printing to create active structures has added an exciting new dimension to 3D printing technology. After being printed, these active, often composite, materials can change their shape over time; this has been termed as 4D printing. In this paper, we demonstrate the design and manufacture of active composites that can take multiple shapes, depending on the environmental...
